Trip to Austin

On the way home from Blanco, instead of going back up 281, we decided to go through Austin and see some sights. We attempted a couple of things that didn't pan out, but then went to the Children's Museum that ended up being a lot of fun - especially for the kids.

Colin flipping steaks

Spencer catching some air with steaks. Mmm!

Colin demonstrating why you shouldn't sit on a campfire.

The family band! Aren't they cute?

Spencer loved seeing the train come through the observation station

Spencer in the bat cave

Colin writing his name in lights

This was a cool thing they had the kids make - they called them "Throw-its," and they had an LED light and magnet. The kids took them into a dark room and threw them up onto a metal sheet, where they stayed. It looked so neat!

I liked these pictures. They were made out of used lids (soda, detergent. etc.)!

Colin playing on some musical tubes. The "tongue of concentration" is at work.

Spencer at work

Greg and Spencer making a vehicle

Dropping the vehicle down a ramp

While we were waiting for our food in a deli, Greg discovered a fun feature on my camera. It's kind of freaky. You can take a picture of someone that isn't smiling:

And turn their frowns into smiles! Well . . . sort of.

On the way home, we played the "Cows and Cemeteries" game. You get points for every cow you spot on your side of the car, but lose all your points if you pass a cemetery. It's a silly game, but it helped keep us occupied. We also added churches (+2), McDonald's (+3), and hitchhikers (+20). First to 100 wins. I think I won by a hair.

It's amazing how going away from home, even for only 36 hours or so, can seem to extend your weekend! It was great to see Brenda and her family again, and fun to make some memories along the way.

Yes, the food was really bad. But not as bad as the bathroom. That was scary.
Thanks for stopping by Austin Children's Museum on your way back home! Looks like you guys had a great time. Even though you are in a different town, you can still get Museum inspired activity ideas to do at home from our blog @ blog.austinkids.org. Check it out if you can. Hope to see you again next time you're in town!
