Hey everyone. I'm still reporting on our Utah trip from a couple weeks ago now.
On Sunday, August 5th, we took a trip as a family and with Grandma & Grandpa Whitehead to Salt Lake City to visit Temple Square. Rather than driving downtown and trying to find a place to park, we decided to take the TRAX light-rail trains from Midvale.
Here we are riding the TRAX with the kids hanging from the standing hand-holds and swinging like they were on monkey-bars.
We visited Temple Square and went into the various visitors center as well as into the newly remodeled Tabernacle.
Above is Grandma & Grandpa sitting in the Tabernacle.
We were excited for the kids to see the Christus statue in the visitor's center. The kids have had a picture of this statue in one of their church books for a while and have always been fascinated by it.
After walking around Temple Square, I convinced the rest of the family to go across the street to see the Conference Center. It's been in use for quite a few years now, but I had yet to actually visit it. So we agreed to go peek in but somehow ended up on a fairly long tour of the entire building which has many gardens and galleries to show apart from the enormous conference room itself.
Here is inside the main Conference Center building.
The Conference Center has many galleries with many recognizable original pieces (especially for Mormons.) Above is a mural of Christ visit to the Americas which was huge! You can really see the scale by comparing its size to Spencer in the above picture.
Another surprise in the Conference Center was a gallery of the original Arnold Friberg Book Of Mormon paintings. These are all the paintings that are included in many of the copies of the Books of Mormon. It was really amazing to see these in real life. As you can tell, by this point in the tour, the kids were pretty tired out.
As we finished up the tour, I was really glad I convinced the family to go. The paintings alone made the tour worth it.
