For an early birthday present for Spencer, we got a new cat. Her former owners had named her Catalina, and since she'd gone by that name for around 2 years, we saw no reason to confuse her by changing it. This cat, as opposed to the last few we've had, is actually extremely affectionate with the KIDS as well as with us (which is important!). Here's a picture of Spencer and Catalina:
Here's the interesting part - when I took Catalina to the doctor the day we got her to get shots, he informed us that she was most likely pregnant, so we'd have to wait. Lo and behold, 2 1/2 weeks later . . .
Newborn kittens look a lot like hamsters or something. Their eyes won't open for another week or two, and they can't hear much yet either. They're pretty much eating, sleeping and pooping machines. They're still awfully cute, though. Here's a pile of kittens for your viewing pleasure:
There are four of them. One is white with four or five black spots and a black tail, one is mostly gray with white, one is all black with a little white at his throat, and one is all black with a little white stripe across his chest. So far, the name suggestions from the kids are "Spot" and "Spike." We'll see.
So . . . anyone in need of a kitten in 7 or so weeks? (:
