Our family bio

This is what Greg and I wrote for a recent ward newsletter about our family (with a few pictures added for interest). The part about what the boys would be when they grow up came directly from them.

Greg Whitehead was born the second of five children and raised entirely in Utah, save for a brief stint in Southern France where he served his mission. Maria was born in Indiana, the youngest of five children. She spent her formative and impressionable teenage years in Keller, Texas. The two first met when Maria came to visit her cousin at BYU who happened to be Greg’s roommate. Soon after, Maria moved to Utah and she and Greg quickly became good friends, despite the fact that both were often dating other people. At one point Greg even attempted to set Maria up with the lead singer of the band he played with. Eventually they both came to their senses and realized they were better off with each other and began dating and were soon married in early 1998 in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.

Greg had graduated from BYU in Computer Science and was working with this cool new thing called the “Internet.” Maria was working as an administrative assistant at Novell. A few years later, the Internet wasn’t so new anymore and the dot-com bust corresponded with Greg finding himself out of a job. So they packed up all their stuff and moved to Texas to see if anyone had any jobs. He was soon hired by Lockheed Martin where he has worked the past six years. He is currently an Enterprise Architect, and it would bore you to tears if he were to explain what that meant. Maria stayed at home to raise their two boys, Colin (7—almost 8!) and Spencer (6). She does her best to continue her own education where she can. She also spent several years as a scrapbooking consultant.

Greg and Maria have always enjoyed serving in the church. Currently Greg is serving as Wolf Den Leader, Ward Co-Organist, Primary Pianist, and Activities Committee Member. Maria is currently dedicating herself to Scouting and is the newly called 1st counselor in the Stake Primary Presidency.

Colin is excited for his birthday and baptism coming up at the end of August. He likes to swim, play with friends, write, and use his imagination. When he grows up, he wants to be an artist, rock star, clown, farmer, cowboy, knight, ninja, pilot, boxer, astronaut, a boss, and a dad.

Spencer is looking forward to being in first grade this fall. He likes to tell stories, read books, play with friends, go on adventures, and play the drums and piano. When he grows up, he wants to build houses, work at a restaurant, build robots, make things in a factory, and be an artist, an astronaut, a teacher, a sailor, a lumberjack, a ninja, and a dad.

Outside of work and church, Greg loves movies, music, video games and his family (not in that order). He is also a very creative person and is an accomplished artist, musician, and magician. Maria loves reading, scrapbooking, video games, and spending time with her kids. She loves education and is planning to homeschool her kids this year. The Whitehead family loves living in the Chapel Creek ward, and they enjoy all the friends they have met here.

I enjoyed reading your family info in the newsletter :). I enjoyed Greg's things he likes... not in particularly in that order part :). Oh, and yes your smilies are backwards, but that's okay, it makes you unique!

I loved the write up about your family. Of course, my favorite is the list of things the boys want to be when they grow up. I'm glad they are keeping their options open:)
