Spencer had a great birthday on January 10th. Because the weather was going to be colder on his birthday, our family went to the Fort Worth Zoo the day before.

We started out Spencer's actual birthday in traditional fashion - he got to wear the official Birthday Crown and hold the Birthday Scepter, and open presents right away.
Next he got to blow out candles on his chocolate chip muffins, which were on the traditional Birthday Monkey plate. (Yes - our family has weird traditions. Monkeys are funny, and we work them in wherever we can.)

Later in the morning, we went to Main Event with Spencer's friends Robbie and Emily. The kids ate lunch and cake (what would a party be without cake?), then bowled and played a few games.

Spencer enjoyed his birthday a lot. I can't believe he's only a year away from getting baptized and joining Cub Scouts! My little boy is growing up.
