Christmas Newsletter 2009

It's a little delayed while we were waiting for some family photos, but here is our 2009 Christmas newsletter year-in-review in pdf format:
The following is the text from the document:

Another year has come and gone, and it’s time to reflect back on the past twelve months and figure out if we actually did anything or not.

We started off the new year by getting sucked into Facebook, reconnecting with old friends, and forgetting to keep our blog up-to-date. (http://gwgumby.blogspot.com) We lost our beloved minivan early in the year and ended up purchasing a brand new Mazda “microvan” to replace it.
We went on many family trips this year from local places like Scarborough Faire and Austin, to a major 11-day family trip to Disney World in the fall.

Right after a Thanksgiving visit from my sister Sharie and her family from California, we learned the surprising news that Maria is expecting our third child sometime next August! So that’s already going to be the biggest event in 2010.

GREG just finished his 8th year at Lockheed Martin where he supports the F-22 program with Interoperability certification. After receiving a synthesizer for Christmas last year, he’s been spending much of his free time composing and recording songs. He’s almost got an album’s worth of music and his boys are his biggest fans. He also dusted off his pencils and created several new pictures this year, one on commission. In April he went to a work conference in Utah for a week and got to spend time with his family there, performing several magic shows including one for his Mom’s elementary school grade. At the beginning of the year Greg was Colin’s Cub Scout Wolf leader. This fall he was released and is now his ward’s Elder’s Quorum President and is enjoying all the exercise that comes from moving people.

MARIA was extremely busy this year home-schooling both boys and filling her calling in the Stake Primary Presidency, and in scouting as Unit Commissioner and District Trainer. She earned her Wood Badge beads in January, and was awarded the District Award of Merit, the highest honor you can receive in Scouting at the district level. In March she went on her annual srapbooking weekend retreat and in August she went to Wyoming to visit her parents and family there for a week. She was recently released in her Stake calling and is now the Ward Cub Scout Committee Chair.

COLIN is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. He’s been having fun with Cub Scouts and earned both his Wolf and Bear this year along with many Arrowheads, Belt Loops, and other awards. He got first place in this year’s Pinewood Derby for the fastest car that he designed himself. He loves to practice drawing and writing and being creative. He loves making people laugh. And he especially loves video games! He was old enough this year to start helping mow the lawn and used that to help earn over $150 that he saved up the entire year to take with him to Disney World.

SPENCER is 7 years old (8 next week) and in 2nd grade. He’s looking forward to finally starting Cub Scouts after watching his brother go for a year and a half and attending Day Camp the past two years. Spencer loves building things with Legos or clay modelling. He loves reading and was hooked on comic books so much that they had to be taken away for a while so we could get him to read other books. Early this year Spencer received some stitches when he tripped and fell, puncturing his mouth on the corner of a desk. He’s been learning many songs on piano this
year, and became semi-famous when we posted a video of him playing a part from a song by the band Oh No Ono on YouTube which was seen by the band itself. (http://gwgumby.blogspot.com/2009/08/spencer-famous-pianist.html)

We hope you all have a great 2010! Love Greg, Maria, Colin, Spencer, and ???
