Trip to Blanco

While Greg was in Utah for over a week last month, the boys and I drove down to the Hill Country to visit my sister Brenda and her family for a few days. It was a beautiful drive - the wildflowers were abundant, and there were still lots of bluebonnets, though they were a little past their prime. Colin started getting motion sickness, so we stopped in West for a while and explored. It's a cute little town.

Once we got to my sister's home, one of the first items of business was setting up a tent in the front yard for the boys to sleep in:

Unfortunately, it was REALLY windy, to the point that the boys finally came in at 10:00 or so and asked to come in. So the tent was a nice place to keep their stuff out from underfoot and to change in, but didn't get slept in much.

Brenda took the boys on a walk - and outlasted them by far. At the end of the road by her house is a place with LOTS of fossils, so they had fun looking for and collecting them. I took them back at another point to find a few more.

Brenda had lots of flowers right in her yard, and the boys both had fun traipsing through them and picking some for me.

The boys giggling at the rooster getting his comeuppance for pecking Brenda.

There is a State Park just a few miles from Brenda's house, so we went there a couple of times, too.

Here's Brenda showing the boys that you can actually suck the nectar from a honeysuckle flower. Colin especially loved this, and kept going back for more.

I thought I'd take some obligatory wildflower pictures. I've had the HARDEST time getting normal smiles out of these boys when the camera is pointed at them!

They're still cutie-patooties, though.

Colin and Spencer by the lake

Climbing a really cool sideways tree

The second time we went, Rachel and William came as well so they could all ride bikes. Colin and Spencer tried to feed the geese, who were aggressive and kept the boys on their toes.

We went down and enjoyed the view by the lake for a while:

And the boys enjoyed attempting to climb a tree - cypress, maybe?

Here's William on his recumbent bicycle:

And Brenda took a turn on Rachel's bike:

And, as usual, Rachel and I had a good time giggling together.

It was a great trip - it's always wonderful to visit with Brenda and her family, and we usually get some projects done while we're at it (more low-key this time, of course). It's strange to think I'll most likely have a baby in tow for my next visit!
